Please note that to use Spawnpoint to manage your VIVE Focus maps you will need to enable our Advanced Integrations via entering a specific value into the Developer tab of your VIVE Business+ Configuration. For more information on how to do this, check out our Enabling Spawnpoint's Advanced VIVE Focus Series Integrations help article.
If you need assistance with this or do not have VIVE Business+ Pro licenses for your VIVE Focus headsets, please contact our VIVE Licensing Team.
Starting the Map Creation Process
TIP: Before you start, we recommend ensuring "Double-click Passthrough" is enabled via Settings > General on your VIVE Focus Series, and also remove any assigned maps from the VIVE Business+ group as otherwise VB+ will keep applying that map to the headsets.
- Go to the Tracking Tab in your Spawnpoint Operator Panel
- Click the Create New Map button in the top right-hand corner of the page
- If you have enabled our Roomscale addon you will be offered the option of Roomscale or Arenascale here. If so, select the appropriate option for the type of map you would like to create - Arenascale for a shared map, and Roomscale for a single device map - If not, skip to Step 4.
- When asked whether you would like to Create a new map or Copy an existing map, select Create
- Select the headset you would like to use for the creation process and click Next
- The device will now reboot into mapping mode and you can follow the guide below to map your environment
- Once you have completed the mapping process, return to Spawnpoint and wait for the button to be ready to copy your map to Spawnpoint - this may take a few minutes depending on the size and complexity of your playspace
- You will now be able to name the map and copy it to Spawnpoint for deployment to all of your headsets
The Focus Series Mapping Process
NOTE: if you are trying to make a map for a very large space (10x10m+) we recommend mapping it in chunks. You can do this by repeating the below mapping process in segments, following steps #2 through #4 for each segment of your arena, only pressing the power button once you have scanned all of the segments. If you need further assistance with this process, please do not hesitate to reach out as we've successfully scanned huge spaces with the VIVE Focus Series and are more than happy to advise!
While your headset is rebooting, make your way to the middle of your arena and put on your headset. We recommend being in the middle of the arena before the headset has fully rebooted into VIVE Home for best results.
1. Draw a boundary when prompted, this can be set to a perfectly rectangular boundary that fits the size of your arena using Spawnpoint later on so feel free to only do a rough boundary for now. When asked to set your mid-point and forward direction, make sure you face down the length of your arena as shown in the image below. If your arena is square, you just need to make sure you face directly towards one of the walls of your arena
2. Once you have created your boundary and have returned to VIVE Home, turn on passthrough mode by double-clicking the button on the side of the headset. Standing in the middle of your arena, with the headset on do a slow (over about 5 seconds) 360 degree turn on the spot
3. Walk to the edge of your arena and walk along the entire perimeter at a normal walking pace, facing the direction of travel at all times
4. Move back to the middle of your arena and do a slower (over about 8 seconds) 360 degree turn on the spot - this time looking up and down in a "scanning" pattern as you go.
5. Press the power button on the back of the headset for 1 second to turn off the screen and save the map to the headset.
6. If you'd like to modify your boundary or forward direction, you may do so now before importing your map via Settings > Boundary > Reset View from within the headset.
7. Return to Spawnpoint and wait for the Waiting for Map button to light up and change to Copy Map from Device. This may take a few minutes depending on the size and complexity of your playspace. You can now name and import import your newly created map into Spawnpoint to apply to your entire arena of devices, this will carry across the tracking data and boundary shape.
Setting a Boundary using Spawnpoint
If you would like to set your boundary to a perfect rectangle you can do so from the Tracking Tab, click the Boundary option in the top right-hand corner of the page and you can toggle boundary management for all of your VIVE Focus headsets at once to either:
- Match your Arena Size - so that if you change the size of your arena via the Settings Tab, it will automatically change the size of your boundary to match
- Use a Custom Size - you may wish to make your boundary slightly bigger than your Spawnpoint arena, or use a custom size entirely
This setting will be applied remotely to the headset and can be changed at any time.
Copying an Existing Tracking Map
To copy an existing tracking map from a headset (for example one made using the VIVE Manager Mobile App, or when you first migrate from mapping using VB+ to mapping using Spawnpoint) you can follow the same process in the Devices Tab by clicking Create New Map but select Copy Map from Device instead of Create. This will let you name the map and copy it from the headset.
Re-applying your Tracking Map to a Single Headset
There may be times when you need to re-apply your map to a single headsets - such as after resetting the headset or to troubleshoot a tracking issue. Locate the headset at the bottom of the Tracking Tab and click the rotating arrow, this will re-apply the map to just that headset and ensure it's fully up to date.
