Multi-Arena Linking allows multiple arenas to participate in the same game session.
This can be useful for birthday parties and other group events, as it allows you to put all players into the same game despite not having enough capacity in one arena to do so.
For most games, linked arenas behave exactly like all the players are in the same arena. Players can interact with each other regardless of which physical arena they are playing in, creating the experience of one shared play space between both arenas (NOTE: This doesn't increase the size of the arenas, it's more like they're layered on top of each other)
However, some games use Multi-Arena Linking in unique ways.
Game-Specific Behaviour
NanoClash
NanoClash uses Multi-Arena Linking to create arena-vs-arena gameplay rather than combining all players into a single team. Players are automatically assigned to teams based on which arena they are playing in. Please note that Multi-Arena Linking is required to play NanoClash, as it only functions as an arena-vs-arena game.
If you're running a game with two arenas, it'll be Arena 1 on Team 1 vs. Arena 2 on Team 2. However, if you link more than 2 arenas together then it'll be Arenas 1 & 3 vs Arenas 2 & 4 for instance. In other words, NanoClash uses an Odd vs Even arena assignment system when more than two arenas are linked.
This allows larger venues to run team-based competitive matches across multiple physical arenas.
Before You Start
Before setting up Multi-Arena Linking, ensure that:
- All participating arenas are managed by the same Spawnpoint Controller.
- All headsets can communicate with the Controller PC
If you have not yet configured Spawnpoint for Multiple Arenas, please refer to our guide: Managing Multiple Arenas in Spawnpoint
Enable Multi-Arena Sessions
This only needs to be completed once per venue.
- Open the Spawnpoint Operator UI.
- Navigate to Devices.
- Click the Settings (Cog) icon on any device
- Go to the "+" tab.
- Enable the Multi-Arena Sessions add-on.
Once enabled, your Controller will be able to create linked arena sessions.
Create a Linked Arena Session
- Open the Play tab and start a Manual Session
- Select the game you wish to launch.
- Click Multi-Arena Mode in the Available Devices section.
- Click the Link Arenas button and select the additional arena(s) you wish to link.
- Add players to the headsets in each arena
The linked arena session is now ready to use, and should all connect to the currently running game or Spawnpoint Lounge if enabled.
Important Notes for Separate Network Deployments
If you are using the Separate Networks with a Shared Controller networking setup described in our networking guide:
- Arena A must be the primary arena.
- Arena A must host the Spawnpoint Controller.
- Arena A should be used when creating Multi-Arena sessions.
This is because all linked arena communication is routed through the primary arena's router, only Arena A's game server is accessible by all arenas.
Troubleshooting
Multi-Arena Mode Does Not Appear
Verify that the Multi-Arena Sessions add-on has been enabled.
An Arena Cannot Be Selected
Verify that you have added the arena(s) to your Spawnpoint Controller.
Headsets Do Not Show as Online
Verify that the headset can communicate with the Controller PC.
Players Cannot Join Across Arenas
Verify that:
- All participating arenas are managed by the same Controller.
- Your networking configuration follows the recommendations in the multi-arena networking guide.
- You are using your Primary Arena as the arena you link the others to, if you are using Option 2 from our networking guide.
