Spawnpoint is rich with incredibly powerful features for managing your headsets, arenas and PCs... so it can take a bit of time to spot all the amazing things you can do to make operating your arenas easier.
In this article, we'll be looking at some handy Spawnpoint features that can make running your arena that little bit easier.
Headset Names and Default Player Names
1WMHH000001 isn't the most engaging player name ever - but if you didn't name your headsets that's the default player name you'll be given unless you fill one in when you add a user to a session.
You can set both a headset name (e.g. "Quest Purple") and a default player name (e.g. "Purple", "Lenny" or "Dr Destroyer") via the device management window. The headset name is for you to identify the headset, and the default player name is for player to identify each other.
- Go to the Devices Tab in Spawnpoint, and click the cog icon on the device you'd like to modify
- Go to the Spawnpoint tab (the second one, with our logo)
- Enter a Device Nickname, this is the name you'll see everywhere in Spawnpoint to uniquely identify this device. We recommend matching this up to your device labelling - in the Spawnpoint office we use colours so all our headsets are named "Focus Orange", "Quest Purple" and "Pico Blue"
- Enter a Default Player Name, this will be the name used for players on this headset if you don't give them a name when adding the headset to a session
- Repeat for each of your headsets
That's all there is to it! We'll be introducing more player naming features in the future so stay tuned!
Bulk Device Management
Managing devices one-by-one can be pretty tedious, so we added the ability to bulk-manage your devices in Spawnpoint.
To select multiple devices on the Devices page simply hold left control and click on devices to select them, as you select them they'll highlight in blue to show they're being bulk-selected. You can also click the circle in the top-left of each headset's card instead of Control-Clicking them.
Once you've selected the devices you'd like to edit, you can click the Bulk Manage Devices or Bulk Quick Actions buttons in the top-left corner of the page. Certain tabs may not be available in the Device Management Window depending on which devices you've selected, as we only show tabs that are applicable to every device in the selection - so if you'd like to edit your VIVE-specific settings make sure you only select your Focus Series headsets!
You can also quickly select all of your headsets (or all devices including your game server and PCs) using the Select All button in the top-left. The arrow provides a dropdown with additional options, or just click the Select All button to select every device at once.
Keep an eye on Headset Battery Health and Other Vitals
There's nothing worse than a battery that drains too quickly - it means more battery swaps and game interruptions. Which is why we've introduced a Vitals tab to the Device Management Window, allowing you to view historical data for your headset's vitals over a 2 hour period.
To access headset Vitals, simply click the cog on a headset on the Devices page and go to the tab with the heart on it. From here you can view a 2 hour window of historical vital data for your devices. This tab is also multi-device friendly so if you select multiple devices and use the Bulk Manage button you can view the graph for multiple devices at once.
This is extremely useful for diagnosing battery and memory issues with your headsets:
Do you have a headset that games randomly crash on? Maybe something is using too much RAM, check out the RAM Usage graph and see if it's getting too close to 100%.
Are your headsets losing battery very quickly? Check the discharge rate using the Battery Charge graph, a headset should generally last 1.5 - 2 hours on a full charge.
Stay tuned for more vital monitoring features coming in the future! If there's something you'd like us to graph, why not Suggest it as a Feature?
