Spawnpoint's Voice Chat client is based on the open source voice client Mumble. This means it's incredibly easy to connect an existing Mumble client to the voice chat servers and talk to or listen to your players while they're in the arena. This does not even have to be your operator PC, and could in fact be a phone using a Mumble Client available from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
To install the Mumble Client on a Windows PC and connect it to your Spawnpoint Voice Chat server, follow these steps:
- Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 Redistributable
- Download the latest version of the Mumble Client from the Mumble Download Page, generally the big green button with the suggested mumble version is the one you'll need
- Make sure you have connected a microphone/audio headset (as in, not a VR headset) to your PC to use with Mumble
- Install the Mumble Client and then run it from your Start Menu
- Click through the first-time setup of mumble, noting the following:
- Ensure the correct input and output devices are set for your hardware setup
- At the Device Tuning step, set the Jitter value to 20ms
- At the Volume Tuning step, adjusting the slider to ensure that your voice is detected at a volume that isn't so quiet that it will pick up background noise, and isn't so loud that you have to shout to have your voice be heard
- You may wish to use Push To Talk on the Voice Activity step, so that your players only hear you when you intend to
- Leave everything else at defaults as you go, unless you wish to change anything
- Once you have gone through setup, select the Globe icon in the top left and double click the Spawnpoint Voice Server in the list, this will only show up if at least one headset has Voice Chat enabled
-
Enter a name such as "Operator" and proceed
When you first join, you will be put into the "root" of the server, but will see a channel for each of your arenas in Spawnpoint. Double click an arena to enter that channel, where you can now communicate with your players!
